Corsair power supplies come from two different ODMs, Seasonic and Channel Well (CWT). Both are very good manufacturers for high-end products, but Seasonic tends to be a more conservative company that doesn't want to grow their business too fast whereas CWT is kind of the opposite and is interested in selling a large number of power supplies through many different companies. Corsair blurs the boundaries between these ODMs, letting the two manufacturers produce different wattages for the same series.

I had bought this to power a Quad-core machine and vid card to speed up 3D rendering on a CAD machine. Worked flawlessly, had all the connectors needed to run the new board, HDs, and the 240 core video card. Runs cool and quiet, steady, power supply. Good value for a high quality PS. I'd definately get another for my next build. |

Purchased at $130 and thought that Corsair would be better than my old Antec PSU. Wrong ! Motherboard LEDs were blinking and power boot up was unresponsive. It was dead on arrival and 5V and 12V rails were fluctuating by miles. The only way that we managed to start it up was to use the green and black cables on the 24 pin connector. This successfully brought it to life but then we found the wildly fluctuating voltage readings. |

80 PLUS is
an innovative, electric utility-funded incentive program to integrate more
energy-efficient power supplies into desktop computers and servers.
Participating utilities and energy efficiency organizations across North
America have contributed over $5 million of incentives to help the computer
industry transition to 80 PLUS certified power supplies. The 80 PLUS® program has helped to standardize measurement of
desktop and desktop-derived server power supply efficiency and encourage
sales of more efficient units into the market. Now, with funding from a
group of electric utility and energy efficiency organizations, the program
has researched the efficiency of power supplies used in data center and
enterprise servers. To date, over 700 power supplies have been
certified and many local and major computer manufacturers are selling
qualified computers. Additionally, large commercial and institutional
consumers are specifying 80 PLUS in their procurement policies at increasing
rates.
What is the 80 PLUS specification?
The
80 PLUS performance specification requires multi-output power supplies in
computers and servers to be 80% or greater energy efficient at 20%, 50% and
100% of rated load with a true power factor of 0.9 or greater. This makes an
80 PLUS certified power supply substantially more efficient than typical
power supplies and creates a unique market differentiation opportunity for
power supply and computer manufacturers, and significant benefit for
consumers. 80 PLUS now certifies power supply products for high efficiency
performance in server applications with the inclusion of a category of
testing for Redundant Single Output server power supplies. Industry
efficiency performance has improved dramatically over the four years of 80
PLUS' existence enabling 80 PLUS to announce higher efficiency levels of
Certification (Bronze, Silver, Gold).
