For the price this is a great projector. I was a little bummed about the limited number of inputs in the back, but S-Video, composite, and VGA gets the job done. It has a great picture even with some daylight coming in the window. Keystone correction is great, and zoom and focus work well. I have it hooked up to an inexpensive home theater system, and movies are fantastic on it. Would definitely recommend this projector.

Very bright, nice picture in eco. mode. Remote is setup well, but does not work correctly. I even tried a pointing directly at projector, it might work maybe 30% of the time. Picture color is nice, but it appears to have somewhat of a screendoor, grainy look, its a DLP so it shouldn't but? Dark movies do not perform well, not dark black colors. Also the color is not as bright and bold, It has features to adjust color somewhat. In a small room, and at a 92'' screen, looked good, manually adjusted zoom and focus. Good deal for price. Ran ru-6 sat.cable to projector, coax to rca adapters. made a cheap quick installation. I put it on its own surge protector, and used a ''safety'' chain attached to the projector loop for added falling safety. Needed this projector years ago, even with its lackings, I think this is a wonder and cheap projector. Also fill out the rebate on viewsonic sight, print confirmation, peel label from box, and send registered, return reciept. wait for free bulb.

This projector is great. Works fine in the day and I have it projected next to my window. Works great for the 360 and I can only assume it would work just as well on any other consoles. It works well with my computer too. It says the throw distance is 32 ft but it still looked fine when I broadcasted it on my neighbors house about 60 ft away. I've had it for a month or so and the only problem I've had is getting the projector to project the image directly on the screen. I have had to raise the back a little bit to get the picture to fit on the screen but then again the distance is 11 ft and it is raised about 2 ft short of the ceiling. Overall the projector is an amazing deal and you might as well buy it while it has a free lamp.

alot of projector for the money. first im a projector pro and have had installed just about everything out there . This J551D is a good home theater projector if you on a tight budget.it will take HD from your cable box or PS3 etc through the DIN15 computer port , you will need a break out cable it has a component HD cables on one side (RCA) and computer on the other . it is very bright and has good contrast very little screen door effect when compared to cheaap LCD units . it has 3500 hr lamp life on high and 4000 hr on eco mode .replacement lamps are cheap and viewsonic has good warranty service it is noisy sound wise and is prone to overtemp if your in a hot room .with only one HD input a reciever with component switching is must . also if you have problems with rainbows or DLP motion blur headaches look for LCD or 5 time speed wheel DLP , this projetor has real problems with dark action video and is not a good gamming .but for most video its very good ,

I bought this in place of an HDTV, and WOW is it impressive! I have it projecting at about 60'' across in 16:9 mode, which was a good mix of size and detail, on a grey high contrast screen, and projects OK with a relatively high amount of ambient light, and is absolutely phenomenal at night, even with a lamp on. I could have gone bigger if it was only used with very little ambient light (in a basement with a few lamps on). It is hooked up to my cable box via a (3) component to VGA connector. This is the ONLY way to get the 1080i signal (or at least a converted version)- the S-video and composite cables CANNOT transmit HDTV quality.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Not a bad little rig! Good picture, set-up is simple, lightweight (fits in a computer bag) and has some useful options. Just a few minor issues; Be aware that the angle adjustment leg in front is plastic. One good bump at the right angle and it's gone. Viewsonic has a promotion for an extra bulb that expired in March of

for badcat, the composite is your video (RCA) you can also use a hdmi to s-video modulator...dont ever use the VGA port unless you are hooking a copmuter up to it, but yeah you can also get a RCA/svideo cable for your xbox360. hope that helps

I am thinking about getting a projector for my Xbox 360. All that I want to do is decimate legions of zombies in Dead Rising in a movie-size format ;) I noticed that this one doesn't have component video or hdmi, so how do you hook it up to your 360? Do you use an hdmi-to-dvi cable, and run the dvi end into a dvi-to-vga adapter to go into the projector? I have the 360 Arcade model, which has hdmi, that's why I'm wondering. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Bang for your buck, this is tough to beat. I know it's a business projector, but I've been using it to play my xbox 360, and it looks great. No ghosting, no rainbows, no screen door. Bright colors that calibrate themselves, looked great right out of the box. Even on eco mode, this thing lights up the whole room.
Manual zoom gives you about 10 diagonal inches of play, and the keystone correction is something I didn't plan on using, but I definitely did.
I'm happy I went this route. It may not be as simple as an lcd or plasma to setup, and the VGA only port requires adapters for anything but a computer, but I don't think you can find a 90'' lcd or plasma anywhere near this price.
I originally ordered this from another website, but they took so long and were such a hassle that I canceled my order and came back to Tigerdirect. Tiger shipped this to me in no time at all, in great shape, no complaints whatsoever.
