The 5810TZ-4784 uses low-power parts to improve battery life and reliability:
- Its CPU has a thermal design power target of 10W. Competing units sell a T-series (35W) part, or maybe a P-series (25W) CPU for a premium.
- Its GS45 chip set & video uses 7-8W most of the time. Competing G45 and GM45 parts use 12W and 24W, respectively.
- The display uses LED back lighting, which uses perhaps 70% of a CCFL's power.
The dual-core CPU runs a movie, VOIC, e-mail and Office without groaning. The display is excellent. The camera meets expectations. The $650 list price undersells competing units that need overpriced |

This computer is reasonably snappy right out of the box. It will never be a gamers machine but it should handle the occasional video edit and plays video nicely. The battery life really is long, though I have not timed it. My only problem with it is the amount of junkware added by Acer (though, to be honest, they add less than many other manufacturers). |
