AMD Ryzen 9 3900X CPU with Wraith Prism cooler (7NM, 12/24 Cores/Threads, 3.8GHz Base, 4.6GHz Boost, Socket AM4, 105W TDP Desktop Processor), Model 100-100000023BOX
The Ryzen 9 3900X is AMD's second from top of the line non-Threadripper 3rd Gen Ryzen CPU. That's a wordy way of saying it's a really freakin fast CPU at an extremely attractive price point. In our benchmark tests, it scored 587 CPB. This is slightly above the Ryzen 9 3900 model (556), and below the 3950X (703). However, it is comfortably above all of the Ryzen 7, 5, and 3 models, and is right in line with Intel's top of the line i9-10980XE. The included Wraith Prism cooler is AMD's best OEM cooler. It should do a very good job of keeping the 3900X running strong.

The Ryzen 5 3600X is AMD's top end 3rd Generation Ryzen 5 CPU. It sits above the standard 3600 and the 3500X. In our CompUSA Processor Benchmark test, it scored a respectable 328, which is competitive with the more expensive Intel Core i9-9900KF (335) It has a 3.8 GHz base frequency, with a 4.4 GHz boost. It has 6 cores and 12 threads. The 3600X requires an AM4 motherboard, and supports up to DDR4-3200. The bundled Wraith Spire cooler should be plenty for this 95W TDP CPU. The Spire is AMD's midrange cooler, designed for CPUs in the 100W TDP range.

It runs at a base clock of 3.9 GHz, with a boost of 4.5 GHz. Like all current non-Threadripper AMD CPUs, it requires a Socket AM4 motherboard. The included Wraith Prism cooler is probably the best OEM cooler on the market. It comfortably handles the 105W TDP of the 3800X, and even has soom cool RGB lighting, so you can have more of a disco effect in your computer case.

Intel 9th Generation Core i5-9600K CPU (Coffee Lake, 6/6 Cores/Threads, 3.7GHz Base, 4.6GHz Boost, Socket LGA 1151 (300 Series), 95W TDP Desktop Processor), Model BX80684I59600K
The i5-9600K is Intel's most powerful 9th Generation i5 CPU. It has 6 cores, each running at 3.7 GHz. The "K" in the name means that it unlocked, so it is overclockable. It includes integrated UHD 630 graphics. If you plan on using a dedicated graphics card, the i5-9600KF is the exact same chip without graphics, so you could possibly save a few dollars going that route. This requires a 300 series Socket LGA 1151 motherboard. In our CompUSA Performance Benchmark, this scored 194. The i7-9700K is considerably faster at 261, as is the Ryzen 5 3600 at 318.

Intel 9th Generation Core i5-9400 CPU (Coffee Lake, 6/6 Cores/Threads, 2.9GHz Base, 4.1GHz Boost, Socket LGA 1151 (300 Series), 65W TDP Desktop Processor), Model BX80684I59400
The i5-9400 is Intel's bottom level 9th generation i5 CPU. It has six cores, each running at 2.9 GHz. In our testing, it is almost exactly in line with the Ryzen 5 3400G, which can usually be found a little cheaper. Like all Coffee Lake Intel CPUs, this requires a 300 Series Socket LGA 1151 motherboard. At 65W TDP, the i5-9400 has the lowest power requirements of each of the 9th Gen i5 CPUs, which makes it a good fit for a smaller desktop system with less ventilation.

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X CPU with Wraith Prism cooler (7NM, 8/16 Cores/Threads, 3.6GHz Base, 4.4GHz Boost, Socket AM4, 65W TDP Desktop Processor), Model 100-100000071BOX

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X CPU with Wraith Prism cooler (7NM, 8/16 Cores/Threads, 3.6GHz Base, 4.4GHz Boost, Socket AM4, 65W TDP Desktop Processor), Model 100-100000071BOX
The Ryzen 7 3700X is AMD's lower level 3rd Gen Ryzen 7 chip. It performed nearly as well in the CompUSA Processor Benchmark as the 3800X (406 vs. 416), and it can usually be found at a reasonable discount vs. its bigger brother. The fact that it only draws 65W is remarkable, given its performance. It breaks the standard step-up mold of more cores, higher speed, more power draw. The included Wraith Prism cooler is very nice for an OEM cooler. It is meant to handle up to 105W, so it is more than enough for this 65W TDP chip. Like all 3rd generation Ryzen chips, the 3700X uses a Socket AM4 motherboard, and supports up to DDR4-3200 RAM.

AMD Ryzen 3 3200G CPU with Wraith Stealth cooler (12nm, 4/4 Cores/Threads, 3.6GHz Base, 4GHz Boost, Socket AM4, 65W TDP Desktop Processor), Model YD3200C5FHBOX
The Ryzen 3 3200G APU is AMD's enty level 3rd Gen Ryzen APU. We recommened this APU if you want to put together a very decent budget build. When paired with a decent AM4 motherboard and at least 8GB of RAM, this can power a system with enough juice to handle any sort of productivity work. It scored 130 in our CompUSA Processor Benchmark test, which is in between Intel's i3-9100 (120) and Intel's i3-9350KF (143). The integrated Vega 8 graphics are no substitute for a dedicated GPU, but they are superior to what Intel offers at this price point.

The i7-9700K is a 9th generation Core i7 CPU. It has 8 cores, each running at 3.6 GHz. It has integrated UHD 630 graphics. The "K" designation means that the CPU is unlocked. Like all Coffee Lake CPUs, this requires a 300 series Socket LGA 1151 motherboard. This scored a 261 in our CompUSA Processor Benchmark test, which is comfortably above the step-down i5-9600k (194), and comfortably below the step-up i9-9900K (335). The i9-9900K has the same 8 cores running at 3.6 GHz, but it adds hyperthreading, so there are 16 threads. The competitive Ryzen 7 3700X and 3800X both scored much higher in our benchmark, at 406 and 416, respectively.

The i5-9600KF is the more powerful version of Intel's 9th Generation i5 desktop CPU. It is the same chip as the i5-9600K, except the "F" in the model number means it does not include integrated graphics. So if you purchase this chip, you will need a dedicated graphics card. It has 6 cores, each running at 3.7 GHz.In our testing, it scored 194, which is about 15% higher then the i5-9400, which is one step down. The AMD Ryzen 5 3600 is much faster, with a CompUSA Processor Benchmark score of 318. This requires a 300 series Socket LGA 1151 motherboard. It will not work with a 100 or 200 series. The "K" in the model number means that this CPU is unlocked, so it can be overclocked.
